PHOTO OF THE MONTH:
DECEMBER 2013
Expecting a baby is a new and exciting feeling, one that I have yet to have the pleasure of enjoying. Some close friends of mine are right around the corner of welcoming their little girl into the world, so taking in the frigid temperatures, ice covered trees, and snowy conditions - we took foot outside for a quick maternity shoot.
NOVEMBER 2013
My good friend started up a business this past year and it has been going well for him. While down visiting and photographing another family, I took 5 minutes to capture his new headshot - to be plastered all over the internet with links to his website: Grand New Flag bringing you to www.grandnewflag.com. Go there. Now.
OCTOBER 2013
I got the opportunity to photograph a lovely newborn this month and I'm glad I did not pass it up. Despite the long time it took (4 hours) for him to eat enough to pass right out, we were able to snap multiple photos of this little man. I tried new techniques that I've reached to gain different effects - and got new "textured" blankets like this one that help to bring life to the photo. I can't wait until another baby come along so I can try this all again!
SEPTEMBER 2013
At 11:27pm EDT Sept. 6th, NASA launched a Minotaur V transporting the Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer (LADEE) from the Wallops Flight Facility on Wallops Island, Virginia. I was able to capture this image from atop Cadillac Mountain in Bar Harbor, ME a couple minutes after lift-off.
AUGUST 2013
Night skies can be so amazing if you just take the time to look up every now and then. This month I got to experience the Perseid Meteor shower on a couple clear nights with a new moon - perfect conditions to take photos. I captured some amazing shots of the Milky Way Galaxy and some meteors the first night I went out, then changed the scenery to capture the sky above Jordan Pond. Meteors are difficult to capture since they fly in and out of the screen a a mere second, so I set my camera up to capture 30 second intervals for 8 minutes. No meteors flew in frame, but when I layered the photos on top of each other, I got this spectacular view of the stars moving in the night sky. Notice how the North Star doesn't move at all... Beautiful.
JULY 2013
We lost one of our family suddenly at the end of this month. I also received new equiptment to further my photography - so it seemed only right to use the subjects I had at my disposal. Here is one of the last photos I took of our beloved Chum before he passed. Always in our faces, the most lovey cat I've ever been around - nothing seemed to phase him. He will be missed.ny events in life, each with their own special moments to commemorate.
JUNE 2013
Remembering lost ones may prove to be difficult times, but having a way to express your feelings is important. On this day, I visited my sister who lost a child too early in life. We wrote messages on balloons to send up to him, but some of them were so heavy with sorrow they had a hard time lifting up...
MAY 2013
Family's gather for many events in life, each with their own special moments to commemorate. This May I got to watch a couple of my close friends make the transition out of college into the "real world". They have come a long way and have many obstacles still to tackle. Congratulations to you both. I was able to help capture the moment by snapping this photo of one of them with his family. A great memory for them all to keep.
APRIL 2013
Machias, ME 2013
Greeks have a bond that last longer than a lifetime. Here are some of my fellow brothers of Sigma Chi Lambda after a hard fought battle all day at UMM's Greek Games 2013. Our newest brother is on the left, he put forth an effort that was truly inspiring.
MARCH 2013
Compass Harbor, 2013
Technically, I took this photo in the early week of April, but for a month filled with lots of editing for the Brown's wedding and being sick, this will have to do. It brings the same concept that I would have addressed if given the time to capture a moment, the fact the winter is nearing an end while spring is taking over. Here's a sunset viewed from Compass Harbor, ME.
FEBRUARY 2013
Sandals Negril, 2013
Jamaica was the first time Alex and myself truly went on vacation, leaving the cold and snow behind in Maine this February. We spent 6 days in Negril at an all inclusive resort and had a blast. Our friends were getting married just a few resorts down the beach, and the time we spend with them was fantastic. (I took photos for them, but due to their wedding reception being held this summer, the pictures will be put on "hold" as a surprise for the guests. After they choose some for "teasers" I'll post them under the wedding section of this site.)
JANUARY 2013
Bailey P., 2013
As I enter a new year of photography, I'm expanding the types of photos I take and my subjects. January brought me the opportunity to capture the early moments in life with my first (of what I hope to be many) newborn/baby photo shoots. Bailey was wonderful, even at times waving to the camera. You can see more of her photos under the "Portraits" tab.
DECEMBER 2012
Christmas Kitten, 2012
Christmas in the Jillette home. If there is one thing that my photography has been lacking, it would definitely be in my ability to photograph indoors. For this picture, I found my sleepy cat (who absolutely hated having the hat on earlier when we were trying to take our family Christmas photo) and used a flashlight app on my cell phone to create a differnt lighting mood for the shot. Fortunately, I received an external flash for my present this year - and have already seen an improvement in my indoor shots! More to come I'm certain...
NOVEMBER 2012
Rough Seas, 2012
Sandy came rip-rolling near the end of October, but I felt this photo would be appropriate for November since the entirety of it felt the same to me. The beauty of the waves crashing along the Maine coast create a spectacle for all those who visit. This was certainly an amazing part to my day.
OCTOBER 2012
Fall leaves, 2012
Fall colors are all around us! This tree was in the parking lot of the Jordan Pond House, but Acadia National Park was full of various colors all month!
SEPTEMBER 2012
Mr. and Mrs. Morin, 2012
A month for weddings. Over the years I have been getting a sharper eye for photography and I love it! After looking at this site and showing it to friends and other family, my brother asked me to take the photos at his long overdue wedding - I could do nothing but agree. The bride had some fantastic ideas for shots that I was able to capture, like this one of their reflection in the water. Because of my increasing number of wedding opportunities, I've redesigned the wedding portion of this website accordingly.
AUGUST 2012
Morning dew on spider web, 2012
Mother nature can be pretty amazing and beautiful. While working on a boat for a couple weeks, days of fog can be quite miserable unless you can find a silver lining. For me, that was the ability of every spiderweb along the dock to collect the moisture from the air onto its web. Intricate and gorgeous.
JULY 2012
Row boat in Seal Harbor, 2012
Calmness of the ocean is one of my favorite parts of sunset on the east coast. Here I captured a local row boat as it's anchored to the dock with an almost full moon looming above in the background. I can live like this forever and be happy...
JUNE 2012
Harbor Seal in Somes Sound, 2012
Back on the east coast, life couldn't get any more sweeter. The camp I am working at for the summer takes the children on excursions upon the ocean to collect samples of water quality, temperature and spot animal life. On these trips, we almost always spot seals. This one stood out to me as he/she appeared to be just sitting on top of the water...
MAY 2012
Spider, 2012
Spiders are remarkable creatures. In no time they can spin intricate webs to catch prey that are not only functional but very compelling to look at as well. This spider I found lurking within a Rhododendron near my apartment. Using my new Digital SLR camera with a macro lens, the detail I can get is amazing. I'm really liking all the new tricks I can do with this "new for me" technology.
APRIL 2012
Bodie Ghost Town, 2012
Nevada is home to many things, including my brother currently. On a visit to see him this month, we visited Bodie - a Ghost Town, and my very first. Literally in the middle of nowhere, we arrived to see shanty buildings erected in a clumped pattern in the middle of a valley. Spending 4 hours here walking around definitely gave moments picture worthy.
MARCH 2012
Bruce, 2012
Animals are wonderful things. Like a child, they can bring joy and pain into your life but somehow always manage to make you smile. They take pleasure in the simplest of things, like here, the plastic strap from around a milk container can entertain for hours!
FEBRUARY 2012
Daffodils, 2012
The greatest thing about February is all the love in the air (primarily thanks to Valentines Day). These daffodils I purchased for my fiancee at the start of the month just because I could. Playing with the lighting in the room, some flash and flower arrangement I was able to get this unique "pink" effect of the white curtains in the background.
JANUARY 2012
Pacific Waves, 2012
The Pacific Ocean is an extraordinary vast body of water. Unlike the sheltered coast of Maine, waves off the coast of Oregon can be seen coming from far off in the distance - with great power. The Pacific Northwest is usually drenched with rain throughout the winter months, but on those few occasions when the sun does come out, the sunsets over the Pacific can be breathtaking.
